Day 13: Spiaggia Rena Bianca - La Maddalena

The day began leisurely at Spiaggia Rena Bianca, Santa Teresa Gallura’s local beach, located right on the outskirts of town. The water shimmered in an incredible gradient of colors ranging from light turquoise to a deeper blue, and the sand was fine and almost white. On a clear day, you could even see the coast of Corsica on the horizon.

In the afternoon, we drove on to Palau, where we took the ferry to La Maddalena a trip that took only about 15 minutes.

Once we arrived in La Maddalena, we simply wandered through the alleys of the small island town. Narrow, stair-lined alleys, small squares, and an unassuming church that was stunning inside, with a black-and-white marble floor and a golden altar. La Maddalena has that typical, slightly sleepy charm of small port towns. Of course, we stopped for some ice cream and an aperitif at the harbor, enjoying the view of the colorful houses.

In the evening, we went out for dinner and feasted on a platter of cold cuts and cheese, culurgiones in tomato sauce, and fregola sarda. To top it all off, we had the best tiramisu we’ve ever eaten. We watched the sunset right at the harbor before catching the last ferry back to Palau. Seeing the illuminated coastline at night from the water was another special, peaceful moment to end the day.
