Day 8: Alghero

Today we continued north toward Alghero, enjoying stunning views of the coast and mountains along the way.

Right from the harbor promenade, we noticed a pink bicycle sculpture with the number “100” on it - probably a tribute to the 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia, which started in Alghero in 2017.

In the old town, we strolled through the narrow, car-free alleys, past countless souvenir shops selling red coral jewelry - we couldn’t tell if it was real or imitation 🤔. The colorfully tiled dome of the Chiesa di San Michele peeked out from between the houses, and we took a quick look inside the Cattedrale di Santa Maria. At the harbor, we walked along the old city wall, past ancient cannons with a view across the bay.

For dinner at MOMA Restaurant, we had a mixed seafood platter as an appetizer, followed by ravioli with ricotta, Gorgonzola, and walnuts, as well as the restaurant’s signature MOMA Carbonara. Very, very delicious. In the evening, we took another walk along the illuminated city wall and back.
