Day 1: Hamburg - Olbia - San Vito

It all started with the flight from Hamburg to Olbia. Arrival, luggage, anticipation—and then, right away, the first hurdle of the vacation: There were problems at the rental car counter because, in the year 2026, I actually don’t have a credit card from a traditional bank. Luckily, Annalena had one, so we were able to set off in the car after all.

From Olbia, it was about a three-hour drive toward Cagliari. The speed limit signs along the way seemed more like non-binding suggestions to us; the locals drove significantly faster and paid almost no attention to the rules.

Our lodging in San Vito, near Cagliari, is really great. The only thing was that our landlady consistently spoke Italian to us, no matter how often we tried to make it clear to her in various languages that we didn’t understand a word 🤣😅.

We spent the afternoon at the beach, and in the evening, as is customary in our little town, we went to a bar for an Aperol Spritz and Ichnusa.
